The pc components of computer jobs at home.
(I thought of covering all the requirements at once but it’s a better idea to split the article in two, so fisrt I’m giving you the pc requirements for your home business).
At this time, if you don’t have a computer then you should start looking for one. There are a lot of places where to get one and the prices drop every day. Your budget doesn’t need to be affected by aquiring a pc, just remember that you can look for used equipment with your friends, family, schools or the flea market.
That’s the good thing about computers, that you don’t need the latest technology to start your business. Work for a while, and once you get a few dollars, buy yourself a couple of upgrades. Right now, you need to cover the minimum specifications:
– at the start of the decade, hard drive capacities of 80 gigabytes were common; get one of this;
– enough RAM to run at most three desktop programs at a time (512 megabytes minimum);
– a compact disc or dvd reader;
– a network card for your internet connection;
– one of those old CRT monitors (not too old);
– preferrably a new mouse and and keyboard.
Expect to pay around 60-80 dollars for the parts I mentioned above. If you care to look further, there is a chance you can pay as little as 30 dollars.
Don’t mind if the specifications I’m mentioning here are old (because they are, and I’m wrinting this on December 2009); you can still get the parts from computer shops and they probably have some of this parts in their original packages, so you get a pc assembled by experts at a very low price.
If you get your computer assembled on a pc shop, your low cost computer will be between $200 and $300 dollars, and should at least include the following:
– a hard disk with around 160 gigabytes of space
– at least 1 gig of ram
– CD/DVD reader
– a network card
– a sound card
– LCD monitor
– a mouse and a keyboard
You can get more and better equipment for a hundred of dollars more. I´m talking about more space on your hard disk, more RAM which is always welcome, a DVD recorder where you can backup your data, a microphone to talk to your clients, headphones and speakers. If you´re on the $500 dollar range you can get a decent laptop that you can take with you and make presentations for your clients.
You need something to get your work done, so don’t be disscouraged if your computer doesn’t look like the ones you see on magazine or tv ads. The quality of your work relies more on making good and timely deliveries. Meassure yourself, and do what you can to improve.
But, get yourself a computer. Come on, you’re almost there!
